What does a Rec.709 LUT do?
A Rec.709 LUT is a table that turns flat log footage into normal-looking video for screens and the web, as the starting point for a grade. A conversion LUT carries no creative look, only the conversion.
Do I need a LUT at all?
Not always. DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro can convert log with color management, and camera setup lists the setting for each camera. A LUT helps when you move between apps, use a monitor or a phone app, or want the same result everywhere.
Conversion LUT or creative LUT?
A conversion LUT only brings log to Rec.709. A creative LUT is a look, and most are made for Rec.709 footage, so convert first and add the look after.
Which apps read .cube files?
DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut and most monitors and phone apps. The S-Log3 page shows how to add the file, with the steps from the app maker's own documentation.
Can I use them for paid client work?
Yes. The Leumos files are free for any project, personal or paid. Share them only unchanged, and don't sell them. A maker's file follows that maker's terms, which the list above states as read.
